Seville in short

Seville is the most atmospheric city in southern Spain: a Moorish palace, a cathedral you can see from half the city, and streets so narrow the buildings shade them all afternoon.

It is compact enough to walk end to end, and it is the obvious starting point for a southern loop through Málaga and Granada.

Why visit Seville?

Things to do

  1. Plaza de España

A half-circle of tiled bridges and balconies; go early or at dusk to avoid the crowds and the heat.

  2. Metropol Parasol

A wooden lattice above the old town with a rooftop walkway and a view over the whole centre.

  3. Triana across the river

The old ceramics and flamenco quarter, with a market and tapas bars along Calle Betis.

  4. Cathedral and Giralda

Climb the ramped bell tower — it was built for horses, so there are no stairs to speak of.
