Valencia Nightlife Guide
Valencia goes out late, even by Spanish standards. Bars fill around midnight, clubs after two, and the beach chiringuitos keep going until the sun comes up in summer.
Three areas cover almost everything, and they suit very different nights.
El Carmen — the old town
Narrow streets, street art and the highest bar density in the city. Plaça del Tossal and the streets around it are the centre of gravity, and it is entirely walkable, which is why most hostel crawls start here.
Expect a mixed crowd of students, travellers and locals, and expect it to be busy on Thursday as well as the weekend.
Ruzafa — the grown-up option
South of the station, Ruzafa is where Valencia goes for cocktails and good food rather than shots. Terraces stay busy until late and the walk home is quieter.
The beach in summer
From June to September the action moves to Malvarrosa and the port. Open-air clubs run along the sand, and the night bus back into the centre runs through until morning.
Practical notes
A few things worth knowing before your first night out here.
- Nothing gets busy before midnight — eat at ten, go out at twelve
- Agua de Valencia is stronger than it tastes; it is mostly cava
- Night buses run roughly hourly after 23:00
- Many clubs have a drink-included entry rather than a flat cover
